Thanks for stopping by! I am Sue Carter Kahl, a writer, researcher, and consultant intrigued by the possibilities of engaging the community as partners in nonprofit and government work. My background includes running a volunteer center, serving as a state commissioner on volunteerism, teaching and facilitating volunteer engagement, designing and conducting research on service, and exploring the shadowy parts of volunteerism that we don’t mention in polite company.
I have a PhD in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego where I studied the value the volunteers bring to their organizations and became even more passionate about bridging practice and theory. I volunteer as a coach for nonprofit executives through Fieldstone Leadership Network in San Diego and on projects that help advance volunteerism.
I love hearing from others who are wrestling with the potential and pitfalls of volunteerism. Leave a comment, question, or request for speaking engagement on the Let’s Connect page.
